MaroonCaludin It's not really "old fashioned," it's just strategy. Everyone plays their game in different ways, some people just like to be tactical (me, for example LOL). The way I play my game (esp. puzzle/brain teasers and RPGs) is that sometimes I look at it as if it's real life. This applies very well with FFXV too, in which Noctis creates his own magic spells, however, throughout the game, there is no such thing as support magic like healing or cure statuses unless he makes them using materials that you bought or gathered.
For example, there's the Healcast magic that Noct can use to heal himself and the boys. However, you would need potions, elixirs, etc., and lots of them if you want that Healcast magic to be as potent as you want. So, if you think about it, you need to buy the healing potions, elixirs, just for you to create that magic. Why not just use the potions/elixirs themselves for healing instead to save money? Anyway, that's an example.
I use summons/guardians on the harder enemies (bosses and just tough monsters like the infamous Marlboros LOL) and Limit Breaks. Unless if the monsters have elemental weaknesses that I would use elemental magic or fuse one of my weapons (or use a weapon that has a specific element in it) against it.
